Hi again,

I have a serious question to ask..my husband recently found out that his salary has been garnished from the government. He used to have his then girlfriend's mom to file the tax for him and she screwed his papers in a major way(for years!). He said he never received any letters from the government on how he owed the government tax money because he moved and the mail never got forwarded. He will be garnished for at least 4-5 months (yikes!!)...the amount is like 3.5k in total.

My question is..can he still sponsor me for PR? What if we arrange to pay it off before I apply?

Please help..it seems that there is always something..*sigh*
Should not be a problem, The main things with will affect sponsorship from a financial stand point are:

1. Default on previous sponsorship
2. Bankruptcy
3. (not 100% on this one) Default on Child Support

Owing some tax should not affect any application, you could even have the worst credit file and it won't cause a problem as long as you are not bankrupt
Ditto.

No, an outstanding tax obligation should not affect a Canadian's elibibility to sponsor his or her partner.
