Im sure this type of thing happens all the time but not quite sure what is the proper way to go about this.

I live in the US and actually work for a canadian company online doing web programming on a contract basis. My fiance lives in canada and I would like to move up there. We plan on most likely getting married down in the us before 6 months or so is up, but probebly living in canada for a year or 2.

The hitch comes where she is currently getting a subsidy from the government for day care for her 3yr old. Shes working on getting child support from the father but until that things are kinda tight. So dont think she can "sponser" me right now.

If you are being sponsored as a spouse (as in married) or as a common-law partner (as in conjugal relationship - living together - in excess of 12 months) then there is no minimum income requirement for your partner for you to be sponsored.

Except if the subsidy is considered welfare / social assistance, then she won't qualify as a sponsor. Even though there is no minimum-income, they do require you to not be claiming social assistance.

Best to check with the department issuing the subsidy as to whether it's considered social assistance.

Im currently just getting off welfare (was on it for 3 months) , and they offered to help me with paying childcare. That would mean Im still in the system because they are giving me payments. I denied it so I can sponsor my boyfriend up when we get married, and instead Im going to apply for daycare subsidy - which is a different system to my understanding. Ill be calling to find out Tuesday, Ill let you know what I was told by taht

@Tiggy that would be awesome to let me know how that happens with you, cause you sound like your in the same situation my fiance is. Except she already has the daycare subsidy not childcare. If they dont consider the daycare subsidy a problem then we are golden I think. Please let me know.

I will. I tried calling on Thursday but they had a high call volume and the wait time was insane, so I hung up. I will try again on Tuesday
