Hello,
I have a question on my PR renewal. My PR is expiring in early 2012. I have landed in 2007and then left Canada to conclude my business/studies. My PR card was mailed to me. I have stayed outside Canada for 2.5 years and then returned to Canada permanently. I have been living/working in Canada for more than two years now and meet the residency obligations for a permanent resident. However, I have the following clarification questions:
1.Is it ok that I landed, and then left Canada without waiting for my PR card to arrive in mail? My lawyer told me that it was ok at that time, just wanted to confirm.
2.If my PR card expires, am I still eligible to work in Canada, while I am waiting for the renewal card?
3.Should I send all the supporting material (lease, bills, pay stubs, etc.) along with my renewal card application to prove that I was living in Canada.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Just submit what is requested in the checklist.
Thanks PMM,
I have an international travel coming up in few months. I am planning on coming back to Canada few weeks prior to my PR card expiry date. However, I would like to get my PR card renewed before I leave Canada, as my return plans could be changed. As per CIC website, PR card processing can be expedited if proof of travel is submitted. Can I use my proof of travel even if I am planning to come back to Canada before the expiry of my PR card?
Please advise.

It is unlikely that you would get priority processing as your tickets would show that you would be returning before your card expires. You can try, they can only say no. With the processing time now 154 days, you should at least apply in the regular way, if you want your card.
Thanks PMM, I will include my travel information and let CIC decide on it.
One quick follow up question, If I apply for a renewal card can I still travel on my existing card until the expiry date on it? When is existing card usually cancelled in case of renewal application?

You can travel on the valid card. It has to be turned in when you pick up your new card.
