Hi guys, just a quick question about the police check. do I need to send it with the application or can I send it along later. I've got almost everything ready to go but I'm also waiting on my marriage certificate to come through the post. I should mention I'm currently in Canada with my husband waiting for my police check to come from Scotland. Mail can be so slow from there so should I just wait and send everything together? will it hold up my application if I send my police check and marriage certificate later on?
thanks
Depends on if you're filing inland or outland - they don't even look at inland applications until 6-7 months after you submit it, so it's okay to send it and get in "in the queue" and then follow up with your police clearance when it comes in.
If you're filing outland, they're going to begin assessing your application at the overseas visa office within about 6 weeks after you submit it, and if they have to request your police clearance, it will delay your processing. So, better to wait and have the delay be at your end than at theirs. Overall outland processing is much faster and so it's best to submit everything upfront so that you can get done.
Ditto. With emphasis.
I do not have a great grasp on the nuances of inland processing, so perhaps it is different for inland applicants, but that may be largely rooted in the particular advantages of filing inland for some people anyway.
But, generally, I have a strong belief that submitting a carefully and thoroughly completed application, including all the requiste documentation, is very important. It may not be absolutely necessary (and I have seen reports by some that a piecemeal submission has worked) but I very much have the sense that the risk of something going awry increases dramatically whenever there is any flaw, any deficiency in the original application package.
Thanks very much for the replies, It is an outland application so I'll just wait and send everything together.
thanks for clearing that one up for me.
