Hi

My husband got a extension of stay as a visitor and it will expire in July. How soon do you apply for another extension.

Still waiting for immigration to complete his file it's in Buffalo and although they tell you to email them you only get a standard email back saying they received your email and can't answer it. I am not sure why they have a email if they aren't going to answer it.

Oh well I guess we keep waiting to hear from them.

Thanks everyone
Bunny
An application to extend status process is the same even if the current status was the result of previous application to extend. Technically they say to send it 30 days prior to the expiration of current status, but so long as it is actually delivered to Vegreville before the date of expiration you have implied status until a decision is made. I would not wait until the last week, more like a couple weeks, and again send by courier so you have proof of delivery.

If, in the meantime, a decision is made on the PR application, they will indeed deny the app to extend, but of course (assuming approval and issuance of PR visa) the applicant then simply lands and is PR.

As for Buffalo:
Assuming he has received the AOR and the app is "in process" now in Buffalo, and there are no hiccups, no requests for additional documents or information, there is a good chance things will get to the decision made stage and a passport request by July.

Buffalo is relatively non-communicative. There is the AOR, then two to three months later (though it can be longer) there is the eCas report of medicals rec'd and a decision made (same day often), and the passport request is sent out . . . and that's it unless there is a problem. So, frankly, given the way Buffalo usually does things, you don't really want any communication, just the results, the positive results.
