How do I know what the status is of it? Do they contact me or I contact them and if they do contact me is it through email or what? Im stressing bad and don\'t know why.
they normally send you a reply by mail. did you receive a letter yet with a Client ID number on it, if so you can look it up through the CIC site, to see what the status is?sometimes it can take up to 90 days to hear anything.
Havent heard or seen anything yet.. oh I hate waiting.
When did you send it? and how? online or mail?
They are really late with their applications, last time i checked they were only checking the ones received in November
Its taking about 120 days. We sent in my spouses back in mid November and still waiting.
Same here, sent my husbands application end of october. so no worries :)
Just wondering what exactly it is about this extension request that youre so stressed about? What is your situation in Canada? Spouse being sponsored? Did you include proof of the marriage/relationship, and proof that you are being sponsored? Did you get the extension ap to them before your original status expired? What was your original status?

If you are in a qualifying relationship and you have a PR ap in process (or soon to be), and you included proof of that with the extension, and the extension ap was received before your original status expired, and you actually had original status that you were able to use to prove when you entered the country, you shouldnt have anything to worry about. You are legal to remain in Canada for as long as it takes them to get around to assessing your request. As long as everything else is in order, theres no reason to expect that they would deny your extension request.

The temporary status processing timelines are currently showing them assessing visitor extensions in 121 days - they are working on aps received through October 12, 2010.
You are on \"implied status\" until they respond, so actually the longer it takes them to respond, the longer you have to stay! So don\'t stress about it :-)
So if I leave and re-enter before I receive my visitor status documentation, I should be OK as long as I carry proof of the PR app and the extension app? Thanks.
Not necessarily

No, your \\\"implied status\\\" is only good as long as you remain in Canada. That being said, the extension of your Visitor\\\'s record is ALSO only good as long as you remain in Canada (technically). So even if you received confirmation of your extension, that extension is NOT valid for re-entry. If you leave and re-enter Canada, TECHNICALLY you visitor\\\'s record should reset and you should start a new 6 months from the time you re-enter Canada (if you are in fact allowed in).

That being said, I put the word technically in there a lot, because many (possibly most) officers will let you back in on the old vistor\\\'s record (if valid) and not issue you a new one for another 6 months.

Now, if you are on implied status, it\\\'s possible they will let you back in with proof of the extension application and that would be fine. But it\\\'s possible your extension application would be voided, and you would have to enter Canada again as if you were coming for the first time, with your sponsoring partner doing all the talking at the border, saying that they have applied to sponsor you for PR and they would like you to remain in Canada with them while your PR application is being processed.

The think is, if you are planning to leave Canada and go back to the States for a visit, you really don\\\'t NEED an extension application. The extension is for you to be able to REMAIN IN Canada. If you\\\'re already planning a trip to the US, then you can just plan to cross back into Canada as I said above, with your sponsor doing all the talking. You would then get another 6 months in Canada without ever having to submit an extension app.

Of course, every time you cross the border, you risk the chance they will not let you back in, which is why many people choose to remain in Canada on extensions for the entire length of time it takes to process your PR application. It\\\'s rare, but can happen.

It\\\'s pretty much impossible to predict what will happen in your case (whether they\\\'ll let you back in with your proof of extension application, and the extension will stand, whether they\\\'ll issue you a new VR, or in very rare cases whether they\\\'ll block you from entering Canada), and it completely depends on the border officer you get on the day, and what they feel like doing.
Interesting..and complicated! Thanks for the explanation. We will be very careful then.
