I wasn't sure what category to put this under, so I apologize. This is immigration related since my fiance and I will be filing for my PR after the wedding. We would like to get married next month, but we do not want a large or religious ceremony. As I understand, the city hall there does not do civil ceremonies. Can anyone recommend a good service/package in the area that is relatively inexpensive and uncomplicated? The ones I've found so far seem too extravagant for our tastes! thanks

Are you talking about Niagara Falls, New York or Ontario?
hi i'm a newbie here.. i have same kind of question. i am planing to getting married NF. NY in Feb.( I live in Canada and he lives in US but not NY) I went to their website and found out that marriage licence cost me 40bucks. however i have no idea how much ceremony will cost. Is it possible to do ceremony at city hall? i read i can ask judge or city clark to perform the ceremony but i have no idea how would i do that? if there's anyone knows any sort of information, help me please!!
Yes, it's possible to get married at City Hall in Niagara Falls by the Mayor. I think we paid a $75 honorarium, plus the $40 license fee. They were really great, though, about giving us a certified copy of our marriage license within a half hour after our ceremony. All you have to do is ask them about it when you go the day before to apply for your license.
You have to get your marriage license 24 hours before you get married, so you just go to City Hall to the City Clerk's office and fill out the application. You can make arrangements with the Mayor's office to do the ceremony at the same time, but I think I'd actually call ahead to be sure he'd be available. Didn't occur to me until just now how lucky we were that he was actually available to do our wedding on 24 hours notice. Just call them - they were all very nice to us. PS - that City Hall is a beautiful building. We were going to have our ceremony in some hotel but the "chapel" ended up being in the basement and they were doing construction all around the hotel so there were all this construction stuff around . . . we went over to City Hall to get our license and couldn't believe how grand the place was and decided then and there to move the wedding to the council chambers. No regrets.
Thank you for your very quick reply!!! i am going to contact them for the appointment. :)
Congrats and keep us posted!
Just a quick note/clarification about the 24 hours, the license has to be at least 24 hours old - and I think you have 60 days to use it (might only be 30 - can't remember). Don't panic & think you ONLY get it 24 hours before you get married.
Okay - looked it up - 24 hour waiting period - good for 60 days
