Good morning everyone :)
I'm currently in the process of sponsoring my significant other under the conjugal partner provisions under the family class sponsorship and the process thus far has been a real learning experience!
A breakdown of the timeline this far:
App to sponsor rec'd Apr 3
DM (approved) Apr 20
PR app rec'd, processing began May 4
July 23, he received a letter from the consulate general indicating that it was determined that an interview would be required.
I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to what we might be able to expect from here on in? Timelines and whether or not the interview is cause for concern? Should I plan on being present for the interview also?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)
Thank you in advance!
Why did you apply as conjugal?
It's anybody's guess as to why the interview - do you have a date for the interview? You could order your CAIPS notes to try & figure out where they are heading.
I would guess (and it's just a guess) is they are questioning the relationship since you applied as conjugal rather than married or common-law.
Get your CAIPS notes soon.

Thanks for the reply,
We applied as conjugal as we we are not married nor did we meet all the requirements to apply as common-law but did meet the requirements under the provisions of conjugal.
Do I need to get a hold of the office in Sydney to order the CAIPS notes or can they be ordered from the Mississauga office?
I've gotten the appropriate forms to request the CAIPS but call CIC in Mississauga to get some assistance and was advised not to worry and that requesting the CAIPS would likely be more of a hassle then anything else. He indicated that if there were problems or if information was missing that the letter would have indicated as such but as it did not request anything or give any indication for the reason behind the interview that I should just consider it a routine part of the application process.
This has me wondering though, as I'm very much learning this process as I go along here, but when do they in fact determine whether or not the relationship is 'valid'? My assumption was that this would be determined during the assessment of the application to sponsor as opposed to the application for permanent residence? Is this incorrect?
Thanks again for any information/guidance provided!
See conjugal is for couples who can't marry and can't file common-law.
That could be why they are asking for an interview - to find out what barrier you have to marrying or common-law and if none - why you didn't get married or live common-law.

And thats not something that they would have determined or wanted to determine as part of the application to sponsor?
Sponsorship eligibility is very basic - it's strictly a matter of is the sponsor eligible?
IE - is he/she currently under another sponsorship agreement? Was he/she under a previous sponsorship agreement & if so, did they meet their obligation. Is the sponsor collecting welfare? Sponsorship is usually determined within a few days of opening the application.
