Hello All

I know I am jumping the gun, but I want to make sure I am informed & doing all that I can to ensure we are the most successful. They requested my passport, so I assume that is good and we should be getting some great news sometime in the near future. I'm also freaking out because we didn't think everything would process through so quickly so we thought we had a ton more time to research & do everything.

I know I read something about this at one point and time and have been pouring over the forum for the past 2 days, but can't seem to be able to find the info I am looking for.

So my questions are:

1. Do I need to apply for some type of permit in order to work or is it automatically assumed I can work because I have a permanent resident card?

2. If I have to apply does anyone know how long it takes? Or if I don't & it's assumed because of my PR status am I able to work immediately or do I have to wait the 6-8 wks for the actual card to arrive?

3. It says in the documentation needed that you need to prove you have enough funds in your account to support yourself for 6 months. How important is this document because I know I definitely do not have enough funds. Actually I don't really have any savings.

4. I read somewhere that the visa they give me as PR is only good for a year & I will have to reapply every year, is this correct? If so, is it difficult to renew & a stressful waiting game as this process has been?

Thanks for any advice, words of wisdom, experiences!

First - congrats on the PPR - you're almost done now :)

Once you land - you are a PR & do not need any permit to work.

You do not have to wait for the PR card to start working. It would be best that after you land you take your COPR and head to a Service Canada office and get your SIN.

As far as funds, that's for skilled workers applicants - don't worry about it

The PR visa itself is good until either the expiry of your passport or the expiry of your medical (one year from date of exam) - whichever is sooner.
The visa is a single use visa and you'll need to land before it expires.

Nothing else to do as far as that except to abide by the residency requirements.
