hi everyone, my wife is sponsoring me through damascus embassy, we submit our appliation in 28th april 2009, about 2 weeks ago the embassy asked for the Right of permenant residence landing fee which is 490$ ,we paid it and since now there is nothing from the embassy (not even a beep) ,my question is what is going on now? is the background check is in process now or they did it already....people keep telling me that the asking for the fee is a very good sign ....any help is appreciated... thanks in advance.:)
The average timeline for Damascus is 4-9 months. This is for aprox 80% of cases and is from the time the file reaches Damascus. Not from the time you sent it, or CIC-M received it.

Anytime they ask for anything is a good sign - means that something is happening on your file.

You really are pretty early in the game as I'm guessing your sponsorship was probably approved sometime between the end of May - mid-June.

thanx derby ,is there is a chance that they process the case in fast track ,i heard in some forum that they fast track iraqi application as mine is, i said that because before they ask us for the ROPF they requested some document that we provided instantly....it said that they ask for the ROPF when they want to finalize the case.
They don't deliberately "fast track" an application - but if yours is straight-forward and they don't have to ask for additional information or require an interview, then it will process at the shorter end of the average timelines - simply because it doesn't take as long to do "less" work than it does to do "more". As DerbyGirl said, it's a good sign that they requested the RPRF because they can't finalize without it - but that doesn't necessarily mean they're finished processing. All you can really do is wait and see . . . we've all sort of learnt that comparing our cases to someone else's, or anticipating that this request or that means something as far as figuring out where they are in the process usually only results in frustration. Each case is unique, each officer has their own way of doing things within the framework of assessing each point, etc.

I read of someone not too long ago who had been asked by the embassy for the passport and photos in preparation for issuing the visa - and then everything came to a screeching halt because another officer reviewed the file and found something that has the potential to make the applicant inadmissible, and sent a letter telling the sponsor that the burden was on him to prove his family member is not inadmissible. So, just when they thought it was finished, they're now looking at months before this one issue can be resolved.
you are right i guess i just wanted some reassurance which can't be obtain easly because as you said every IO has it is own way to see the case....i will wait and hope.
. . . as are all the rest of us here. You're in good company.
yes that is for sure ,that is why the psychiatrics invented the group therapy it is really helpful....cheers for the life and it is bitterness.Sigh
