We have recently had great news...passport requested!!!

The medical expires Sept 17th, so we need to land before then. I will not be finished work here in England until after that time. Also, my wife and I have already made travel plans to go to SE Asia for two months in October, then Costa Rica for two months in December.

We were thinking that we would fly to Toronto for a short (like 4 days) stay, do the official landing procedure, then carry on with our other travel plans. We would then come back to Canada permanently in February.

We have a house in Canada already, my wife's sister is living in it for us at the moment. So we thought we could just get her to mail us the PR card once it comes through.

Are there any issues with landing, staying a few days, then leaving for 6 months? Can they refuse me re-entry?

Advice appreciated...
That sounds like a reasonable plan, including having your PR card mailed to you. Once you "land" you are a PR and thereafter your only obligation is to be in Canada at least two years out of the first five, and two years out of any five after that.

If your new residence is in Toronto, or anywher in Ontario, do not apply for OHIP until you have returned to stay (you have to be in Ontario for five of the first six months for OHIP qualification).

Technically a PR cannot be refused entry into Canada. Without your PR card in possession you might run into trouble boarding a commercial airline with a Canadian destination.

BTW: I think a significant number of new immigrants land, leave (usually to settle affairs in home country, but the reason is not all that important), and then return sometime later, so CIC and CBSA are familiar with people in such circumstances.

Have a pleasant journey!
