Hi all,

My fiance and my one year-old son want to move back to Vancouver next year. I know my fiance will need to get a residency and work permit but what else do you have to do as a Canadian returning to Canada after so many years? Can I just pack up my things and go? I left when I was a student at the age of 18 so I don't think there should be income tax issues. I own an apartment in Vancouver which I'm paying mortgage on but my Mum lives there so I don't have any income -only costs.

I'd appreciate any advice or comments!
As a citizen - yes - you can pack up & move to Canada
You don't need to show income or anything to return to Canada
If you don't have your son's Canadian passport yet, make sure you have his birth certificate
Your fiance is another story - best bet is for you to sponsor him (if you're comfortable doing that - assuming you are)
If you guy qualify now as common-law - you can start now.
If you don't - you can wait until you do - or you can get married
As a citizen you can sponsor from outside Canada
Making the assumption that he's a UK citizen, or at least eligible to apply through London - the processing times are averaging about 2-8 months
