Ok so here is my deal. Im 21 and i want to move in with my Canadian fiancee. We are thinking about going the marrage route to become a PR or citizen. 1. How much does it cost to become a PR? 2. What are the steps?
Thanks :)

BTW i did read the main website too confusing

Read through the information on the
US2Canada website. Once you're married, your spouse can apply to sponsor you for permanent residence. The total cost, if you have no accompanying dependents, is $1040. There is an application package to fill out, the applicant has to have a medical examination by a "Designated Medical Practitioner", and submit police clearances from every country they've resided in for more than 6 months since turning 18. (There are conditions that need to be worked out before you can immigrate if you have a criminal/arrest record or conviction.)
The process basically involves approval, first, of the sponsor through the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. That takes about 45-60 days. If the sponsor is found eligible, the application package is sent to the overseas visa office for the applicant's assessment. How long that takes depends on the visa office - but Buffalo (for US citizen applicants) is currently finalizing spousal aps in 4-10 months.
You cannot "move" to Canada until after you are approved for permanent status - but you can come to visit. Spousal applicants can usually get extended visitor status to stay with their partner while the application is processing . . . but can't work or go to school during that time, and in most Provinces are also ineligible for public healthcare benefits.
ok so for for me to stay longer. when do i apply? before? after? or during my stay for 6months. How much does that cost? and how much more time does that give me?
Thanks
The application cost 1,040. The medical exam 200-300. Also other various costs such as mailing everything.
If you are referring to how much it costs to get a visitor visa, I'm not sure. Is that what you are asking?
uh well the extended stay how much does it cost to get that done? and when do fill out the fourms?
Well to extend your stay its 75$ if your havent reach your limit yet. (30 days before your status expires)
If you apply after your visiting visa, or passport stamp is expire
its 200$ to restore your status and 75$ to apply.
You can apply on the governement website online.
or order forms/print them out and send them by mail
Not exactly. You
apply to extend your stay so that your application is received by CPC-Vegreville prior to expiration of your current status so that you benefit from "implied status" to remain in Canada under the terms of your original status until they make a decision on the extension. You
don't have to apply online - and I actually recommend that you apply using the written forms because you're also going to need to include copies of things like your marriage licence (which proves you're an eligible PR applicant, proof that you are applying for PR (like a copy of the fee receipt for PR fees) and proof of support (a copy of your Canadian sponsor's letter of employment or copies of a couple of paystubs). Send them by courier so that you get delivery confirmation. It's currently taking about 62 days for them to process extension aps, so that gives you the proof you need during that time to show that you actually have "implied status". You'll need to be able to prove when you last entered Canada, so if they didn't give you a Visitor Record or a stamp in your passport, you can't apply by mail - you'll have to leave the country and re-enter to try to establish your new status. (More on this if this is your situation).
The extension fee for a visitor is $75 . . . there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't get your extension application to them before your original status expires, necessitating a restoration fee of $200. It's just not that hard to do. There is no option for you to apply to "change conditions" to a work or study permit unless you are applying for PR via the inland processing route - but I don't ever advise US citizen applicants to apply inland for several reasons - most basically because it isn't necessary and it will not get you working (or studying) any faster than if you apply outland. It's taking CIC 7-8 months after receipt of an inland PR ap just to open the application and begin processing! So you're looking at
at least that long before you'd be eligible for an open work permit. If you apply outland, which you can still do even if you're visiting in Canada, you'd likely be approved for PR in less time and then you get on with life - including being able to work. Buffalo is currently finalizing spousal PR aps in 4-10 months, plus it's taking CPC-Mississauga about 42 days to assess the sponsor's eligibility first. But if your case is straight-forward . . . no kids from previous relationships, no criminal record, no divorces, etc., you should be able to expect finalization at the short end of that 4-10 month timeline.
