We just live together about 5 months, we wanna apply for common law.
My gf is CA's citizenship. I am a student studying abroa. We both studying in UofT SG, is UofT a good background for immigration as my case?

Here are some questions, plz help me to make sure what should I do:
1. We are renting a condo since Dec 1, 2009 the day we lived together. My gf signed the tenement contract. Must we talk to the agent to added my name on it? It is a bachelor, so the agent said that is not good for two ppl...so that why we did not signed together......before the joint account, we already transfered about $5000 in total several times..like she paid the my visa card. I paid for the rent, cellphone bill, etc..Magic
2. We just open a joint account on Apr 03 2010..I received money from my parents in China three times annually, will this be a problem? She received money from her brother in Van...We do not let our family know that we want to apply for the common law...so we will not let them transfer the money to the joint account. But we will transfer the money to the joint account, and use the account to pay things together. Will this be a big problem for the application?Confused
3. We do not have an insurance rite now..both are students, do not have a car. We have to buy an insurance or it is not necessary. If it is necessary, plz suggest one..thx
4. My gf's driver license is in BC. Need she change it to Toronto even do not have a car?
5. plz give some suggestions that what else should we prepare.

lots of questions....Blush
thank you so much...
I wish everybody good luck for the immigration.Bliss
First of all, you're not eligible to apply as common-law partners until you have co-habitated for at least one continuous year, and you can prove it. For a list of the types of things CIC looks for as proof of common-law qualification, read through Sections 5.25-5.26 and 5.34-5.35 of the OP2 Processing Manual.

In addition to proving your common-law qualification, you will need to prove that yours is a "genuine" relationship - not one entered into only to facilitate entry to Canada. You do this through documentation of the development of the relationship, time spent together, declarations from friends/family about your genuine and continuing relationship, etc.

As far as your specific questions, more than anything they indicate that you don't yet have a good understanding of what's required of this process.

1) The joint bank account is important as it shows you have co-mingled your finances and that you are paying for things jointly - but where the money comes from is not important.
2) Naming each other as beneficiaries on insurance policies is good - if you have them. If you don't already have them, getting them just for this purpose might seem contrived.
3) Whether your gf has a BC or Ontario drivers' licence has nothing to do with the immigration process.
ya...ic.. thanks a lot..
I just wanna make sure...I just printed out the manual..
we still have 7 months to go....
Make sure that when you do go to apply, that you use the applications & forms available at that time. CIC does make small changes on their forms, so make sure when you're ready that you have the most current forms when you're ready.
