Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can share their immigrant/immigration stories, and how their first year or two in Canada was. . . ?
Thanks!
M
Let's see, my mother in law tried to get me deported, one sister in law evicted us out of a house my husband was supposed to own (she's a realtor who handled the sale and put it in her husband's name), and the other sister in law got our church wedding canceled two days ahead of time. Glad I hadn't booked a caterer. She called our priest and told him hubby was off his medicine and beating me. People who know us find that hilarious. If he ever went off his meds and acted up with me, as soon as he regained consciousness, I'd have him taken to the hospital for a vacation.
All worked out though. My PR finally went through, we bought a condo, our wedding got rescheduled for 8am on a Sunday, and the priest kept the doors locked during the service just in case my mother in law showed up with a shotgun.
Hahahaha.... Oh my, Catherine!!! And I thought that some of my family wasn't very receptive/welcoming of my husband. Nothing compared to your situation!
I hope you're able to laugh about it now, and I'm glad that things worked out for you in the end. :)
Wow...
Catherine, I thought -I- had problems with my MIL. My MIL seems tame compared to yours. My sincere apologies.
At least when I get together with friends and we talk about our MIL's, I win. I thought my husband was going to kill his sister over the house deal. She made $270,000 on the property when she sold it out from under us. She eventually gave him back his $25,000 down payment when he threatened to get her realtor license pulled.
We are not telling anyone in the family that it is time for me to apply for citizenship. I do not need my MIL calling CIC or CSIS and telling them I'm a terrorist again. When I get my Canadian passport, then we'll tell her.
We interviewed five highly skilled New Canadians about their life in Canada. You might find the videos on Finding Work and Advice for New Canadians the most interesting.
