I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the good moderation/administering of this forum. The forums I actually read on a regular basis are pretty few and far between because most are so full of garbage that it's just not worth it. Between spam, off topic posting, personal attacks, trolling, and just general idiocy, I find most forums completely intolerable. Lately I've been reading some stuff outside of my normal handful of sites, because I'm looking for information on things like "tips on taping and mudding drywall", and it really just makes me appreciate sites like this more.
Yes. Well said. Good moderation here certainly deserves appreciation.

I just read very few forums (since I have to) + 1 networking website.

I came across an user who could post around 360 garbages per day at immigration.ca. http://www.immigration.ca/discussion2/po...y&id=30089
In the last 10 days, the spammer had managed to post 3580 without anybody even noticing!! Gosh!!
Yeah, the moderation at immigration.ca is typically non-existent. The spam for Nike shoes and such is annoying - but at least it's not offensive. But when the trolls start appearing, then things really go off the rails and, unfortunately, nobody pays any attention to that over there. We just had one here the other night that wongn had the pleasure of "nuking". Trolls may not realize it, but it's pretty easy to trace them and find out exactly who they are.

RTC has a team of really good admins, though, who will all pretty much drop everything and jump on a reported post as soon as they get email notification. The subject matter we discuss here is sensitive in nature . . . and it's important to all of us that people feel safe and aren't judged when they post info and share their personal frustrations and hurts. When someone violates that, they're out of here post-haste. That's what this community was founded on, and it won't be changing anytime soon.

Thanks, anitsirK, for the kudos . . . but you've been one, for a long time now, who helps make RTC what it is because you keep us informed about what's going on here when we're not around. We're grateful for your support and participation.
It's also worth mentioning that we admins can't do it all alone without the help of the members here who make the time and effort to report bad posts to us. So kudos back to the loyal members as well!
I actually find the immigration.ca forums more informative, more diverse, and more interesting, and it is pretty easy to look past the noise. And while I have also found this site useful and informative, at times it seems constrained, as if even a hint of a dissenting or different view is unwelcome (depends, of course, on the subject; there have been some fairly animated discussions in lounge topics, so it is not uniformly stuffy). Frankly, though, it seems to show in the oft subdued level of posting notwithstanding the importance of this kind of information and discussion for many going through the oft times emotionally charged and draining process of applying for residence in a foreign country, especially when the future of one's relationship with the person they love is at stake.

I know, though, how difficult and oft times unrewarding monitoring a discussion board can be in the current Internet environment, in which bad behavior and really bad manners is rife, and that without monitoring a forum can be overrun with spam, confrontation, and other distractions.
