Buffalo sent a letter requesting additional docs, apparently I needed both state and federal clearance... I had only sent the fed.
I mailed the State police certs back to Buffalo over a month ago... how can I know if they did in fact receive my docs and linked them to my pre-existing file.
Will they bother to inform me or do I just wait for the next step?
Is there a way I can contact them to find out whether they did get my docs and linked them to my file?
Did you write/add your file number?
Did you send it with tracking?
If yes to both - and it shows delivered to Buffalo - it should be safe to assume it arrived

JuliAnne, if you sent your documents via courier and you have a tracking #, this is good because you can go online and check if it has been rec'd and who signed for it. However, please note (this has recently happened to me).... Immigration has had our documents sitting in some pile since June 2009 and they assumed we had never written to them. If you are presently in Canada, you might be able to call the CIC Call Centre (I don't know if the # in Canada pertains to you as well since your app'n is outside
1 888 242‑2100 (in Canada only) But I would certainly call Buffalo and ask there about your file, or I would send for FOSS notes. Here's a description how to do this:

That is what I am concerned about... I know it arrived in Buffalo according to the courier's tracking... I did include my file number but I want to make sure it has made its way back to the rest of my file and not be lost in some pile. Could my husband (my sponsor) call and obtain my/our notes? Thank you!
JulieAnn, if your husband is in Canada, and he is an unpaid representative for your file (there is a form you can print off that he fills in, and you sign), he can request your FOSS notes, due to the privacy act for free. When I have requested them, I simply faxed Ottawa the form that is required and then within 30 days, they respond. Before, they would send you paper copy of everything in your file (meaning, what you had sent in, and any notes made in the file)... now they will send you via a cd, however, if folks want paper copies, they need to send a letter requesting it in paper copy.
Secondly, if your husband is in Canada, another thing he may want to do is to go to his MP's office because they can call the Minister of Immigration's office in Ottawa and find out what is going on with your file, and find out directly whether your documents were rec'd. Your husband could also try calling the Call Centre and seeing what the answering agent might tell him about the file. Note, however, they will not make any notes to your file, like if you tell them you sent a document, they will not note it.
I think for peace of mind, I would do both of the above. Honestly, don't assume. We were waiting patiently knowing the documents had been received via our tracking #, etc. only to find out later that Immigration sends us a letter saying we didn't respond and that my husband application for PR was being refused, and that he had to leave Canada. Calls from our MPs office suddenly made our documents appear (which had been in the Vegreville office over the last 3 months). Hard to believe, but it happened.

Foss notes will do the OP absolutely no good. She is applying through Buffalo, so any information pertaining to her application will be in the CAIPs notes. 2 different systems.

You won't ever get confirmation from Buffalo that they've received anything that they ask you to send to them. Best way to know for sure it to
order your CAIPS notes.
How do I order my CAIPS exactly? ...I know I need a form, which one is it and where can it be found... which number do I fax it to? Is there a fee? and how do I go about paying the fee if the form is faxed? or do I have to mail it?
