I'm from the UK and I am currently in Canada with my canadian husband. I want to stay until my PR comes through so I applied to extend my visitor status. My original 6 months ran out yesterday and I still haven't heard anything from them. I'll admit I posted the application a couple of days later than the 30 days but It's been over 3 weeks now. I intend to give them a call on monday but I'm not exactly sure who to call, I'll try the CIC call centre and see how I get on. I'm just wondering if the fact I'm here now with no status is it going to be a problem? or will they not worry about a few days if there is an extention pending?
It's my understanding that you have implied status until you have heard something. It took about 90 days for us to hear anything back. You should have sent the extension application so that you had some way of tracking it. That way, if asked, the receipt is proof of your implied status.
Hope this helps.
Oh, and are VR had run out before we heard anything.
Exactly what Jayne said - implied status until you hear either way
Currently they are processing applications rec'd up to June 6, 2009 & taking about 3.5 months to decide

I'm assuming you've sent in your PR application ...?
As long as your application to extend was received by CIC before your status expired (doesn't matter that you didn't apply a full 30 days prior), you have "implied status" to remain in Canada until you get a response. I think it's taking 90-100 days to process extension applications.
thanks for the replys, it's a relief. I have sent my pr application away but I went outland so it would be quicker - I was really worried for a bit there that I would considered illegal and have to hide in the basement or something.
I hide in plain sight
