I'm looking for more information about moving up to Canada on a visitor's visa while my PR app is in progress.

From what I understand I could move up and begin living with my husband before my application is finalized but in order to do so I would have to get a visitor's record from the immigration officers at the border...

Could I also get one while coming through customs upon arriving at the airport? And if so... should I stand in the customs line... or should I go through the immigration line which is separate?

Also... should I have my list of belongings that I would be bringing up later to show at that point or keep it until I actually "land" with my PR status.
Oh, and what could I bring with me? I am an artist of sorts and I would like to bring my work with me... to keep me "busy" until I have PR and could start working again... my supplies would be to expensive to replace but I'm afraid they may not let me bring them through customs. I am also considering mailing them... but I am afraid that might cause problems as well.
Sure, you can come to Canada on a visitor visa. You are can stay for up to six months. You must maintain your US status while your application is in process. After the six months, you could apply for extension of stay. Do not inform you are coming here to live...simply say your going to visit. Do not bring belongings with you...mail them. My spouse lived with me in Canada during the complete process..she just had to maintain her US status.
