Just wanted to post our timeline. I'm Canadian, and am sponsoring my American husband to be a PR. He is here in Canada on a visitor visa. Everything seemed to be going so smoothly but ever since the criminal record requests, seems like things came to a halt.

They asked on June 13/09 for FBI check, as well as Oregon, Idaho, and Hawaii criminal record checks. We did send in the FBI check, and when we emailed LA that we could send a copy of the one we sent or an old one (which expired) whatever they wanted or we could just do it all over.....they replied that they found it?!....so we did send in the other info as requested, it just took awhile.

Today I'm a bit discouraged. We really want to go to a wedding in Colorado October 24th. We called CIC today to ask about my husband re-entering Canada. It seems conflicting. The info on the CIC webpage says 6month visitor visas are for one time entry, yet the guy on the phone thinks it won't be a problem. Has anyone ever done this?......ie American spouse left Canada when here on a visitor visa awaiting PR.

Today its sinking in, how long this has been going on.....
Yes, my husband had a one year visitor visa and has left and come back into Canada a few times. They never seemed to question anything, but that could just be our luck. He always flew back in...
Don't know if that helps, but the immigration officer seemed to just look and see that he had a visitor visa for a one year and not question it any further.
Just curious, was the one year visa a multiple-entry visa? I do realize it states right on the visitor visa that it doesn't guarantee re-entry........did it say the same on the one year visa, my husband has a 6 month visitor visa.
