Hey everyone,

We've had a lot of requests for numbers that can be called from Outside the US and Canada to get through to CIC. I was at the Human Resource Centre today so I picked up a list.

For US and Canada you all know the numbers i'm sure, but they are:

For reference, I was curious about this issue a while back and tried calling the USA and UK numbers for the government of Canada, as listed above. They both connected to the same call centre and both times they said they couldn't connect me to CIC - that I would have to contact the local embassy closest to me if I couldn't call CIC directly.

The only number I know of that actually gets through to CIC, and is accessible from outside Canada is:

+1 613 944 4000

I wrote up a page on immipedia re this:

Next time you call the call centre to speak to an agent, after the standard options to get through to an agent (2 1 2 0), try pressing zero as soon as the next message starts, and you can skip it. It's quite satisfying:

"Please wait while your call is tran..."

click, and your call goes straight through.

CIC has recently changed their phone system. The sequence to get to an agent is now different.

According to Yppgina, the new sequence when calling the 613-944-4000 number from outside Canada is 1, 2, 1, 1, 0.

When calling CIC from within Canada (1-888-242-2100) the sequence to get to an agent is 1, 2, 1, 0.
