Hello everyone,

Can someone give me advice as what to do in my situation? My boyfriend (we are gay couple not married yet) lives in the Philippines and I live in the United States. We have been together for three years. Our interview is scheduled for September 27, 2006 in NY. He has to get visa to come to the States. I am not sure if he will get a visa for this purpose and even if he gets it I am not sure if it will be on time for the interview. What should we do? Apply for visa anyway? if so, should he tell American consulate the real reason or should he be generic as just visiting the country for holidays? Any any of you reading this or know of anyone having done visa for interview purpose? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I suggest that he states that he's visiting his relatives or friends (if any) while on vacation. I did the US visa interviews a couple of times, but not for Canadian interview purposes. It'll be easier for him to state the reason that I mentioned rather than to explain your Canadian PR application. But if you believe that he has better chances of getting a B1/B2 visa if he explains your situation, I suggest that he does so.

The main thing is that the consul should find that your partner has sufficient proof that he has significant ties to the Philppines and will not overstay in the US. The immigration officers prefer short interviews that lasts about 5 minutes. If he does his preparations well, he shouldn't have a problem especially he's a first-time visa applicant.
thanks, bartleys for your suggestions. Anyone else any other suggestions? I would greatly appreciate if you offer any ideas? just curious how long does it take to get an U.S. tourist visa in the Philippines.
As a gay woman, with the way the states are about visa's etc anyway, I don't think I would mention that to them. I would say I'm visiting friends/family etc. They may likely return him as they do NOT have to recognize a same sex couple for any reason, but especially for visas/immigration etc.

I don't know the answers to your other questions though I'm afraid. :(

I hope it goes well for you and I'm wishing you good luck! *hugs*
thanks amanda for your encouraging words..Situation doesn't look good as the latest interview date for u.s. tourist visa in manila is sept 22 assuming that they will grant him a visa. Not sure what the implications are if I go by myself for canadian immigration interview without him. It is depressing to know that if it had been a male-female relationship all one has to do is to get married and produce a marriage certificate and that's it to get a canadian immigration.
TELL HIM TO SAY THAT HE'S GOING TO VISIT FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND THAT HE WANTS TO GO ON VACATION. HE SHOULD NEVER SAY THAT HE INTENDS TO GO FOR AN INTERVIEW TO GET PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN CANADA!!! HE WILL BE DENIED IF HE SAYS THAT!. Sorry, but, it's the truth, he has to keep it simple, when he fulls out the form, let him put in YOUR information as a cousin of his, your address, number, etc , but, just don't say that you guys are in a relationship, cuz, they might say that he will not return to his country and stuff. all the best
thanks...we plan to do that as per your advice..good luck with your plans
