I have a question on IMM 0008 form (background/declaration) if anyone can help please.

#9 have you, or, if you are the principal applicant, any of your family memebers listed in your applicaiton for permanent residence in Canada...

Does this include me (sponsor and a husband), right?

The reason I ask is that I have been arrested and did some time years ago and I am afraid that my having a criminal backgroup would make it harder for her to immigrate..what do you think? Do I need to provide any proof of my criminal record? I have done my time and I have been living as a good citizen ever since.

Thanks in advance!
Mike

My understanding is that those questions wouldn't apply to you as the sponsor, because you're not one of the "family members listed in your application for permanent residence," i.e., on page 2 of the IMM 0008 generic form. So you could answer "no" if you're the only one with criminal history. Hopefully someone with more experience can confirm.
Where you, as the sponsor, could have a problem is if your crimes included a domestic violence or some type of assault on a family member
Aside from that - you should be okay

I think this is addressed on the sponsorship eligibility form

Thanks for your reply,

There has not been domestic violence or anything like that. Most of my charges were thefts (e.g. snowmobiles and cars) and breaking & entry. I finished my sentence nearly 10 years ago and my longest serving time was 8 months.

Thank you for your input Aubade
