Hi everyone, (sorry for cross posting)

How long does it take for my baby to get her citizenship certificate from applying? I am a Canadian and my wife is an American. The baby lives with my wife in the States.

My wife is getting together the PR application and I am wondering if we must have our daughter's citizenship certificate included with her PR application? We want to send off my wife's PR application ASAP but the CIC website said it might take 6-12 months (yikes). I hope it is not that long since it will slow down the PR process significantly.

Any info appreciated :)
Mike
No, you don't need to have the baby's citizenship certificate to file the PR application
I'm going on the assumption that you are a Canadian citizen by birth and that you are listed as her father on her birth certificate.

If those are true, then the baby's birth certificate, with you listed as father will show that she's a Canadian citizen, although you'll obviously want her citizenship certificate also

Thanks Derbygirl,

Yes I am a Canadian citizen by birth (born in ON) and I am listed as her father on her birth certificate.

Since I didn't file her citizenship certificate until recently I have been concerned if CIC would ask us to provide the certificate along my wife's PR application.
Unless CIC has some reason to doubt the authenticity of the birth certificate or doubt that the baby is in fact a citizen, it's unlikely they would delay the PR application and require the citizenship certificate before your wife's PR application can be finalised.

If your baby were not a citizen, then it would need to be included as a dependent on the application, but as the baby is a citizen, there's no need to include it as a dependent, and CIC basically has no interest in examining the baby further.

Most likely they will accept the birth certificate as sufficient proof that the baby does not need to be examined, and proceed with the application.

Thanks Matthew what a relief to hear! Happyguy
