Hi,

Unfortunately my girlfriend (sponsor) has just been diagnosed with cancer and will be unable to work due to Chemo and Radiation, she will have to start claiming sickness benefit which I think is the same as employment insurance she has enough hours that it does not count as welfare (I hope) can anybody confirm if this will screw up the sponsorship application. If there was ever a time I need a work permit it is now. I hope we are only weeks away from AIP.

Any Idea if the CIC hear the word 'Cancer' will they just bin the application as it is becoming more likely I will be the one to care for her or are we looking at a H&C case now?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Has no effect on your application.

PMM
As long as she's not in receipt of social assistance, she's still eligible as a sponsor. Social assistance is not the same thing as unemployment insurance or disability insurance. And being sick does not affect her eligibility as a sponsor either.

I pray all the best for both of you during this difficult time.
Thank you for your responses PMM & RobsLuv, one less thing for us to worry about.
I'm sorry to hear about your girlfriend. I hope it all works out for you both.
