Hello,
So we applied for inland immigration on Nov. 30th 2009 but we haven't received any word from CIC that they received our application or anything. I can't find anything online with my receipt. I am wondering if this is something normal or if we should have received some word of our application being received?
We also applied for an open work permit with our immigration application (as told to do by our lawyer because his work permit runs out in May.) but we haven't received any word on this as well?
Anyone able to help or know what I should or even if I should be worried?
Thanks in advance
We filed inland did not hear one word from CIC until we received AIP 6 months later.
You won't hear anything for awhile yet - they are only working on cases received through
July 14, 2009
Assume you mailed the application with some sort of tracking so that you know it was received

Hey Breezegirl! We filed inland as well and like Sponge, we didn't hear anything for quite sometime. The receipt numbers never worked for us, but once we received the client ID number about 5 months later, that's when we were finally able to log onto Ecas! No worries at all.
What about the status of my husband open work permit? When should I possibly be hearing about that? We sent it in at the same time.
We are also wondering about his ablitiy to leave Canada for a wedding in June. Anyone know if he is allowed to do that or how I would find out if he is allowed?
We sent our OWP with our application as well and it arrived about the same time as the AIP letter as you can see from my timeline. We did not hear one thing from them from when we sent the application in November until the end of May.
He's always allowed to leave.
If he's not allowed back in - then there is a big problem as an inland applicant has to be residing in Canada and attend a landing interview in Canada.
If CBSA doesn't allow him to return - then the PR application will be toast

You won't hear anything about the OWP application until he is has been assessed for first stage approval. The
timeline for that right now is 6 months. As DerbyGirl says, they are only just now opening applications received through July 14th. This is why we always recommend that US applicants apply via the outland process, even when they're in Canada.
You mentioned in an earlier thread that your husband was in Canada with a work permit - if you submitted the inland PR ap before that work permit expires (depending on what type of work permit it is) he's permitted to continue to work for the same employer, at the same job, under "implied status" - until he's finally assessed for first stage approval and the OWP is issued. This doesn't apply to work permits issued under the BUNAC/SWAP program.
Okay, thanks for all the info on not hearing back.

This is exactly what our lawyer told us to do so he could stay in Canada while we wait for everything to go through.
I'm just wondering if once he gets his OWP if he's allowed to go to the US for a wedding or if he has to stay legally in Canada until he gets his PR? Or even if we haven't received the OWP is he allowed to go back to the US to visit? Do we need to get some special permission?
Just want to know our options without hurting his application is any way.
Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

You don't need special permission - they'd allow him to go. But they might not allow him to come back, and if they don't, your inland application is trashed. That's the big disadvantage to applying inland - but, I guess, in your case it's a trade-off. He gets to continue his work permit by applying for PR inland and including the extension with the PR ap, but it pretty much means he's stuck in Canada until the whole thing is done if you don't want to take any risk of losing that ap. Even the OWP is not a guarantee to re-entry, although he could probably get back in if his original work permit was still valid (not because of the "implied status" extension!), since that's for a specific period of time and, therefore, limits his stay.
That's not to say that some have not successfully left and re-entered Canada with an inland ap in process but there are never any guarantees (especially if the applicant is non-visa-exempt). I've talked with one woman lately whose husband was assured that if he left for a family emergency, he'd be able to get back in, no problem - "just speak with me and I'll approve his visit visa". Well, that person got reassigned or something and now she has a husband who's not been able to get a new visa, even after several attempts over a year's time and they've had this inland PR ap "in process" somewhere for two year's time and, in spite of several conversations with CIC, nobody even told her that if he can't get back into Canada, he can't land and that she should just re-apply outland!! They've wasted a year and they're no closer to being together. And his overseas visa office can take up to 18 months to finalize an application!
My situation is kind of the same and I was looking for some help.
My current work permit expires in July 2011 and it was obtained after getting an LMO appoval. I applied for my PR in October 2009 and I have received a file number from Buffalo. They also sent me an e-mail telling me that the file was now being handled in their New York office and all communication must be done with the New York Office. After they transferred the file to New York, I haven't heard anything from them.
Although I know that I do have some time before I should be concerned, could someone please tell me if I can extend my work permit when PR is in process? Do I need a new LMO or can I apply for a work permit extension based on the fact that my PR is under processing? I haven't attached a work permit extension along with my PR application, so what should I do if my PR does not arrive before my permit expires?
