Money is tight right now, so we want to pay the original fees and was wondering what happens if we don't send in the Right of Permanent Residence Fee right away. Does anyone know? Will it slow things down significantly or is it a simple matter of sending it in upon request. Thanks.
It could slow you down considerably. We didn't pay ours upfront because money was tight at the time. We sent it in upon request, but that was back in November, and we still haven't heard anything back yet (other than it was received). If we'd paid it upfront, I'm certain my hubby would have landed by now.

That's the chance you take, though.
We were in the same boat and did not submit ours until late in the process. Oddly enough, we submitted it at about the same time they sent a request for it. Not really sure if it slowed the process down, a whole lot, but I would advise getting it sent off ASAP rather than waiting for them to contact you

It slows the process, as the RPRF is last thing, the officer sends the request to the clerical section to send the request letter (takes time) letter sent, then file is put away and everyone waits until the fee is received, before the file is retrieved and then the PPR.
Thanks everyone, we decided to just pay it all straight away. We want this sorted as soon as possible. Thank you for the info!
In the handbook on the immigration website they have a time line and one of the "steps" is to pay the right of permanent residence fee upon request. I would assume that yes it would delay the process slightly, but it is not required upfront.
We didn't pay it initially because we were short on cash. The only thing holding up my case at this time is waiting for Mississauga to send the NYC Consulate proof that we paid the ROP fee... we paid the fee in October. I do think if we paid it upfront that our case would be finalized by now.
When I applied, I didn't pay my ROP fee and didn't see any delay in my application. When I was called to get my PR forms, all they did was have me pay it at the immgration office here in Regina, asked a few questions and that was it.
I think there is a difference between inland and outland apps, outlanders have to pay before they get the visa in the passport, inlander's can pay at the point they have there landing interview.
Bingo!
