Hi
My sponsored partner has mailed the request for FBI clearance almost 14 weeks (almost 4 months)ago. Record shows it has arrived and FBI office confirmed it too but still no Clearance paper to this point.
Called FBI office many times and keep getting the same answer " will be a few more weeks sometimes it takes longer than 10 weeks"
We done everything by the book. Request expedited on form and wrote on envelope asking report to be returned back after 4 weeks from mail-out date, yet does no good. We are trying to be positive about it but start to feel frustrated.
From reading posts here seem like everyone else has no problem getting it back quickly or within reasonable time. Yet our case is almost 4 months and nothing still :(
What can we do at this point?
P.S: Before paper mailed out I spoke to FBI and asked about sending Clearance paper to Canada address. They stated again and again by different people that they only mail to U.S address. If I'm not mistaken I thought I read somewhere here that they do mail to Canada address. For our case no luck there neither.
Thanks everyone for reading this long post. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
Not sure what to tell you there - we put a date on ours (about 6 weeks) and we had it back in about a month.
Obviously there is no guarantee on any of it - I'm going on the assumption that your partner has no possible criminality issues?
Ours was sent to a Canadian address - not sure why they are telling you that they only mail to US addresses - the only thing I can think of is requests for fingerprint cards, that they will only sent those to US addresses.
Guess you could always try again & hope it's quicker

Hi Livefree, I too am waiting and waiting for my FBI. It has been over 10 weeks since they received the form. It's frustrating. My state prints only took 2 1/2 weeks. I HATE this paperwork!!
You need to actually get a hold of someone by email, they are much more helpful that way. I had trouble tracking down my FBI stuff and was getting a couple of different answers over the phone. They gave me an email address to write to. I got an answer straight away from the person answering. He was able to tell me the state of my request and find it so they could meet my deadline. He even checked up on me afterward to make sure I received it in the mail. mih@leo.gov is the address. Just make sure you tell them when you sent it in, what the tracking info is, and that you need it for an immigration deadline. They should be able to help you.
And yes, they DO send to any address. I don't know why they were telling you they don't send to Canadian addresses.
Thanks very much carel.
We sent our's in Nov 21.09 Express Post with a Prepaid Return Express Post and we still don't have our's back yet. The tracking number shows it was received and we phoned Jan 6.09 to find out that they do have our names in the system, which is good, but that was 3 weeks ago now. I sent an email to that address you posted. Thank again. Have a nice day.
Hi carel,
I sent an email Tues, politely asking for help, then again yesterday, in case it was missed to "mih@leo.gov" stating tracking numbers and the date sent and received and what the FBI request is for and no response.
They received it Nov 24.09 and the dude I talked to Jan 6.10 said they have our 2 names (wife/son) in the system. Do I have the right email?
I guess I will phone Mon morning. I don't want to bug them, but it's been over 3 weeks since I phoned last. Please, any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Darn :( I sent mine in in mid-December and haven't received it back yet. Of course, it could be a bit too early to tell with mine yet. I'd email that address but I don't have a tracking number. I'm trying to get ahold of the clearance before I sent in the application...
They aren't going to go looking for tracking numbers. My first FBI check took 3 months, my second took 2 weeks. The difference was that I put on the outside of the envelope for the second one that it was for Canadian Immigration, and I needed it in 2 weeks. If there is nothing on the outside of the envelope, it gets dumped into line with all the other requests, and they get to it when they get around to it.
Hi, Everyone
Thanks for posts.
In my case didn't make any different even I put outside envelope & on cover letter due date for immigration.
Good luck to you and please keep us up to date of your case. Thanks.
Thanks everyone too. In my case as well didn't make a difference either. They received it Nov 24.09, we are still waiting. Hopefully this week.

Just got my FBI report back today. 11 1/2 weeks. Thank goodness. Now to submit everything.
Good for you US2Can. :) I'm right behind you, hopefully some of us are next.
It looks like we're all on the same timeline so that's a good checker :-)
Hi,
Just to let those who are waiting know, we received our FBI Clearance today. Took 11 1/2 weeks. They rec'd it Nov 24.09, there were a few holidays during time, so it could have been worse. We did send our's Express Post both ways. We wanted a tracking number. We also put Canadian Immigration as the Reason and a Date Needed By on the Request Form and on the outside of the envelope.
We put 2 weeks, but Senior Members suggest writing 4-6 weeks.
Just so people who are waiting know, their clearances should be coming soon too.
