Full Version: Copies of original documents - do they need to be Notarized?

I am sponsoring my wife and I am putting together the documents to send to CIC. We both live in the US. I am making copies of these documents:
- Marriage Certificate (got married in US)
- Passports
- Citizenship card
- Birth Certificates of kids (they are dual American and Canadian citizens)
- Other docs showing we have been married for many years

The instructions do not say whether copies of these documents need to be notarized or not. But, I want to be careful to avoid unnecessary delays. Do I need to have these documents notarized? I have tried few notaries and I was told they could not notarize state issued documents (I live in Texas). It is kind of impossible for me to get certified copies of all the above documents.

Please help.

Thanks.
The document checklist included in the Region specific guide specifies any requirements for original documents, or for notarized documents. Typically US legal documents like marriage certificates, passports, birth certificates, etc., do not have to be notarized. The exceptions would be a document, signed by a non-custodial parent, authorizing a child to immigrate to Canada with (for example) a remarried ex-spouse - or any documents that have to be translated.

Thank you very much for your help.
