I'm hoping someone might have some advice for me...
My boyfriend and I are common-law; I'm American, and we've been living together in Canada for around a year and a half. I'm really worried about the proof of this though. Here's how it proceeded:
1. First I moved in with him and his roommate, so I'm not on the lease, or utility bills, etc. I have copies of rent cheques from our joint account, and am hoping that landlord will sign a letter saying that I moved in with him.
2. Then we got a place together, over 6 months ago. The lease is in both our names.
3. We just relocated to another apartment in the same building; we do not have a lease signed (the landlord's condition, since he wanted us to just carry on someone else's lease). Utilities aren't in our names either. All of my mail is coming to this new address, but my boyfriend's aren't. We do have rent cheques from our bank account.
I emailed our current landlord and he said he'd be more than happy to sign something official proving that we do live here. However, he's requesting that I draft the letter/document/whatever, which he will look over and sign.
I'm extremely worried, because I do not think a simple letter with his signature will look official enough.
If anyone has any advice for me, I would be very very grateful.
Thanks so much.
