Hola

My situation is that I already have a valid US visa in my home country passport. I am a PR. This visa will expire in late October. Is it possible to apply for a new US visa now, as I believe I will need to travel later in the year for training for work?

My 5 year old son has no US visa. I would want to add him as a dependent when I apply (or would that be reapply) for a US visa.

What's your thoughts on this? Gracias.
I am not sure what type of visa you have and whether or not there is a different procedure for renewing than getting a new visa issued but here is our recent experience.

My husband and I just set up the appointment for his US visa (travel for pleasure). He is a Canadian PR but travels abroad on his Venezuelan passport. After we read about the required steps for him to get a US visa we made our plan to book his appointment 6-8 weeks before our travel date. Come time to book the appointment at the Calgary consulate we found out that these appointments are hard to get. To book the appointment you go through an online booking system. For the Calgary consulate they were booking upto 8 weeks in advance and there was nothing available! As I frantically refreshed the webpage every 5 minutes for a week I seen some appointments come available but they were too late for our travel plans and they were usually unavailable after 30 seconds! The appointments are apparently in hot demand.

So my advice is to get on booking the appointment ASAP and get that visa replaced and a visa issued for your dependant. Like I said, I don't know if there is a different process or set of forms for a renewal, so maybe someone else can answer that for you. Might also be worth the $2 a minute to call their information line!
You'll probably get more info if you visit VisaJourney.com and ask this question - they're a US immigration discussion forum.

Hola

Thanks for the input. If you think Calgary is bad, man you don't want to even know how difficult it is to get an appointment in Toronto. So bad it is it might be best for me to apply via the Ottawa embassy!!!!

One thing I have found out in the meantime is to make sure you have asked for the correct visa classification (e.g. B1 or B2 etc.). One of my friends applied a few months ago and put in that he was applying for a B1 (which I think is business trips) but six weeks later at the embassy, he was told that he would only be allowed the B1/B2 (business and vacation trips) type of visa. This meant that he had to go back 6 weeks later because of this change!!!! Scheeeeshh.. you would think they could have simply made the change the first time he went in.

Thanks [RobsLuv], I'll ask at the forum you mentioned. Will update the thread with whatever answer I get. Thanks to all.
