Dear forum

I got an E-mail from the Visa Section - Canadian Embassy of Cairo
that refers to my application for permanent residence in Canada submitted at this office subsequent to the receipt of a sponsorship undertaking by my Canadian wife.

They said:

We are pleased to inform you that your medical instructions are now ready. In this respect, you are kindly requested to arrange with any courier company (DHL, TNT, aramex, FedEx, etc) to pick them up any Thursday from 08:30 to 10:00 a.m. Kindly note that we have included the list of designated medical practitioners in Italy.

You may also wish to send us your passport by courier. Once the medical results are in, and the background check is cleared, this case will be ready for visa issuance.

Is This Good News??????

I have a few questions regarding my Medica Exams, my background check and my passport.

That is was my application processing

-We received your application to sponsor .... on March 23, 2009.

-We started processing your application on April 3, 2009.

-We sent you a letter on April 3, 2009
about the decision on your application.

1) My Medica Exams were submitted with my application as a part of the chicklist documets. Is the reason regarding my medical exams because they have expired?
Can I under-go it in the same place in Italy as I did before?
Or where my medical exams missing or done incorrectly?
I wanted to double check if I was supposed to wait on the medical exam until I actually instructed to get one, as I have found all the instructions at the CIC website below.
- The instructions from CIC:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/p.../index.asp
Or can I just book one myselves from the CIC's list of Designated Medical
Practioners in ITALY and it will help speed things along.
- CIC's list for Italy:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medicalinfo....Name=Italy

2) Is there any reqirement for me to have my background check to be cleared?

3) My passport was re-newed after I submitted my application as it was about to expire.
What do I have to do now that I have a new passport because my old one expired?

When exactally am I supposed to send my new passport by courier? Once I do my medical exams? or How long will I have to wait before I send my passport by courier, as I do not know how long it will take until my medical results will be in?

Please let me know as soon as possiable.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Have a great day!!
Foremost, this does indeed sound like good news -- how good I am not certain since different visa offices handle the background/security check phase differently, and I know nothing about your particular Visa Office. Just extrapolating from the instructions you were given, though, it could be that the more substantive background check has already been done and they will simply do another records check (I'd suspect) before actually issuing the visa, which I think is routine in any and every case (even when landing, most landing PRs are subjected to an electronics name record check at that point as well, and it seem likely it is also done whenever they receive a passport and are about to issue the visa itself). I don't really know, but if they had not already preliminarily approved your application, it would seem premature to ask you to do either the medical again or to send in your passport. So I think it is very good news, but again I am not sure.

Re the medical: the obvious thing is your medical has either expired or is about to expire, and if and when the Visa is issued, its expiry date can be no later than the anniversary of your most recent medical. The other good news is that if you recently obtained a new passport, its expiry date is years in the future, so that is good (and means that the expiry date of your visa will be the anniversary date of your medical, when you get that done).

Re doing the medical: I suggest you get the instructions before proceeding. I am not sure, but I think their instructions will include a particular form you must take to the DMP, since it is an update medical. Again, I am not sure of this, but I think that is what others have reported. At the least, I think it has a unique identifier (number) that will link this updated medical to your case. While you probably could go ahead and make the appointment right away, just not go to it until you have the instructions -- since you should have the instructions in hand quite soon, waiting to book it should not be much of a delay.

Not sure about sending the passport in right away. One is usually nervous about not having one's passport in hand . . . the visa cannot be issued before the medicals are reveived, and that will take some time. I'd lean toward waiting.
Re the passport, it just depends if you are going to need it. The visa office clearly thinks they will have your case finalised soon, and so are giving you the option of making things faster overall by sending the passport in now. If you're going to need it for travel, obviously keep it, but this will mean an extra (small) delay when they are ready to issue the visa as they will have to write to you requesting the passport. If you don't need it for travel, send it to them, and that way when they're ready to issue the visa they will already have the passport and be able to issue it straight away.
