Hello all,

I was wondering if some of the knowledgeable and experienced members here may be able to help us with a few concerns we have about our application....

I am sponsoring my husband (outland) from the Abu Dhabi office. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and we have been going steady since '93. Most of our time (90%) together has been in a long distance relationship. We've stayed in contact through letters and webcams and voice/chat.

1) According to the AD visa office website, the standard processing time is 6 months from the time they receive our application from Canada.
The AOR says that their standard processing time is 6-12 months.

Ecas states that the sponsorship part of things was approved by CIC-M and the file was transferred to the AD office on 4 June 2008. Our AOR said that AD started processing our application on 23 July '08

So now, should we calculate the processing time of 6 months from 4 June or 23 July? Should we assume 6 or 12 months?
(Unfortunately AD hasnt mentioned any "If you don't hear from us by X date, contact us" line in the AOR).

We ordered CAIPS 10 days ago. We also sent in an address update by email for my husband 14 days ago and requested a status update. AD hasnt replied to that email yet.

2) Our wedding was in Dec 2007 and I returned to Canada in Jan 2008. We had applied for a TRV (April 2008) for my husband to visit me over the summer. That was rejected since the officer said he was not convinced my husband would return back to the UAE. We then sent in our sponsorship application to CIC-M in May 2008. Will the TRV application be a problem?

3) My husband is a year and a half older to me and belongs to a different religion. I am currently completing my Ph.D. degree and his highest formal education was high school followed by a non-university diploma. Can this be counted as "incompatibility" in our marriage?

4) My husband was on a temporary resident (visit) visa in the UAE while he was job hunting. He did some freelance and some part-time jobs on the side to make ends meet for a while (~1-2 yrs). He had to fly out to the nearest visa change port (Kish Island, Iran or Muscat, Oman for 2-3 days each time) every 3 months to renew his visit visa for UAE. This is apparently a well known/established procedure in the UAE.

It took him a while to find a permanent job hence his travel history form shows multiple trips to Kish Island, Iran and Muscat, Oman including visits home to see his folks in India while on a visit visa in UAE. We have been very honest on his travel history form about where he has been and what he has been doing.

He has been on a UAE permanent resident permit for his job since May 2007. Will this extended travel history with frequent ins and outs be a red flag?

We have already submitted police clearance certificates from all the countries that he has continuously lived in for more than 6 months. Since he never actually spent more than 2-3 days in Kish Island each visit (total 5 visits), we have not included a clearance certificate from there.

Can someone please give me an idea of what to expect? Thank you very much for your time.

Its generally from the time the office receives the application, thats how they deal with inside applicants anyhow,
You have a lot of legitimate concerns and questions, but it's always difficult to anticipate how things will play out. The processing times for each visa office are from the date the file started processing . . . so if your AOR shows 23July2008, start counting from then. It really is an average anyway - and unfortunately, Abu Dhabi is one visa office without a published timeline.

The frequent travel shouldn't be a red-flag but don't be surprised if CIC gets an*l about it and requests criminal clearances for places he visited frequently, even though he never lived there for at least six months. Also, it's not unusual that his TRV application was refused, but no, it shouldn't adversely affect the PR application. And the differences in your levels of education should not be too much of an issue - your age difference, even less. It sounds as though you had lots of evidence and documentation of a long-standing, ongoing relationship - that will be a positive. Your biggest hurdle, sorry to say, is where he comes from.

Ordering CAIPS was a good idea - I'd suggest you do that on a regular basis just to keep tabs on your progress. Hopefully things go smoothly and you're together again soon.
Ditto Robsluv

I would, however, revisit the AOR regarding instructions about changing mailing address . . . and/or follow it up with a paper mailing of the change of address (my AOR, though from a completely different Visa Office, had specific instructions and a form for submitting a change of address).

Other than that, you probably mostly need to be patient. Sounds like your case is solid, and barring inadmissibility issues should not be problematic . . . but with the travel and where he is from, it could take awhile.
Oh thank you so very much Robsluv, dpenabill and AWA1979. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I'm so relieved!!

I'll wait for the CAIPS to come in and hopefully things will be clearer then.
Thanks again!

Can anyone please tell me what "Proof of residence" I need to provide? I had already sent in a copy of my driver's license as well as my passport copy with the application.

Does this mean they will be making a decision in the next 30 days on our file??

Thanks for your time!!

I'd just go ahead and send more proof, sometimes government agencies wont accept drivers license or passport as proof of residency.

for example, rent receipts, employment records or utility bills. Those were items listed on CIC's website for proof of residency.
Looking over your first post - you state
Quote: I am currently completing my Ph.D. degree
Something from the school showing that you are regularly attending classes would be helpful to show you are in Canada
The rent receipts, rental lease, employment records and/or utility bills mentioned would be good

I'd say any day-to-day purchases also - I mean - if you are in Canada - you need to buy groceries, etc
Credit card statements showing activity in Canada

Just my thoughts - AWA1979 gave very good examples as mentioned also
Hi could anyone please help me interpret the CAIPS notes I just received for my husband’s immigration?

Notes: AOR sent via Email, SUPP form IMM5549 requested, IMM5549 REC’D, IMM5549 with ATH as I can not locate file.

1. What does Medical Stage - M19 mean? The actual medical assessment states the Medical Status Code as "A", which I found out means Assessed and Finalized (i.e passed??). Does M19 mean something else???

2. "PSDEC” means Paper Selection Decision.... but what is paper selection?

3. Underneath the Paper Selection, there are columns for Security Decision, Selection Decision, Medical Decision & Final Decision. Those all are either blank or have zeros beside them.

I believe the code says that 1 = passed 2 = etc. etc. 3 = etc. etc. etc. ... but there is no 0 = something. Anyone know what 0 means?

4. The CSQ/CAQ is left blank although we already have a valid CSQ for my husband since we will be residing in Quebec.

5. What does the note saying “I can not locate file” mean? They do say they received the Supplementary Form (IMM5549) that they requested and we sent in, so is that misplaced? Will this cause any problems?

Thanks in advance everyone...I'm so glad to have received the CAIPS notes, I just wish I can find some good news in there somewhere!!

We received our CAIPS notes and everything looks ok on paper. The PSDEC has been tagged as "1".

Under the notes section, the IO mentions our sex, age, citizenship, first marriage, where we reside and work. Then they mention where we met and how our relationship developed, what kind of marriage we had (civil marriage), the relevant dates and no honeymoon.

There is a line after which says "NOT/NOT ORGANIZED MARRIAGE" and then "SUPPORTING PHOTOS,LETTERS ON FILE, ID DOCS MATCH INFO ON FILE".

Does anyone know what the not/not organized marriage bit means?

We figure it might mean that they have decided that marriage is bonafide, or, that it is not an arranged marriage (since my husband originally hails from India).

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help folks!

Not an arranged (organized) marriage makes total sense

I'd guess that too. They look for arranged marriages, but if from a country where that is common or the norm, to not have one may raise eyebrows. CIC looks for anything that stands out as not the norm whether it is difference in age, or religion, etc.
