Full Version: Question about landing? "Goods to follow"

Has anyone ever landed without having all their "goods to follow" forms filled out and if so what did you do.

The reason I ask is that although I'm thinking VERY optimistically there is a chance that I would have to land without having all the forms filled out. I live in the midwest, work in Alaska for the summer season and will be living (or staying depending on our paperwork) in the Vancouver area in the fall. My husband will fly to Alaska mid-September when I am finished working and we plan on traveling for 9 days before heading back to BC. Either way whether my paperwork is done or not I will be driving through Canada to get back to the States. My only concern is that if for some miracle the paperwork was finalized and I had to land I would not have my "goods to follow" forms filled out or with me. I do not have time before I leave to work to get them filled out. Any suggestions?
The forms are very simple; mostly just a list.

Only high end items really need to be specifically itemized. Otherwise the list can be fairly general, referring to boxes of things, particular items of furniture in general terms ("one sofa, dining room table with four chairs") and with fairly general "values" given.

You can, if you like, wait until you are in the POE landing to fill out those forms, if you can remember what to put on them.

Probably just better to start making the "list" now and have it ready to transcribe onto the correct form when the time comes.

You may not be allowed to bring things into Canada later "duty free" if they were not properly listed.
Thanks for the info--Much appreciated!!
Thank you both for asking this. I was also wondering when that day finally comes and I need to bring up all my stuff how that works. I know you need to list things you have but I have a 10x20 storage unit filled with my things and I can't possibly list each item. ;) LOL So it's great to know only the big stuff matters like my furniture and electronics and things.

Much appreciated dpenabill for clearing that up for me. :) I wondered if you just pull your truck up and they go through it all and how they do that. I don't want all my boxes getting undone. I pack in an organized way and the thought of all that being tossed about isn't pleasing to me. :)

Oh and I can't remember if I read this but how long do you have from the time you land to bring your things up? The reason is I don't like the place my husband is living now and his lease is up in June but may rent month to month till I get here and then we can look for a better place to accomodate our things. I don't know how long after I land that this will happen. ;)

Thanks!!!

Thanks!!!

I was told, pretty much forever, unless you lose the list.
