Our in Canada application file has been transferred to the local office from Vegreville. We sent the application in March 2008 and i just received a letter saying that we might be contacted by the local office for an interview or further clarification. We have never received any letter from immigration and this is the first letter we got. Does anyone know the process of the interview and what questions they might ask. And does this mean that we might be approved
It means that questions/issues came up when CPC-Vegreville was processing the file that needed further clarification. The local office will review the file and either contact you, or resolve the issue and send the file back to CPC-V to finish processing. Unfortunately, no, this cannot be taken as a "sign" that you'll either be approved or rejected, but it does indicate that there will be delays in processing your application because, once a file goes to the local office, it's put into a queue and falls subject to that office's timeline. Some local offices are very busy, others aren't. Which office did your file go to?
Thank you i appreciate.
My file went to the Etobicoke office. Do you know long it might take? We submitted the application in March and the IO has contacted me a couple of times regarding some information.I am sponsoring my husband on the in-Canada app. The Io seems to be very kind and a nice person. So when the local office resolve the issue it means they might do it without calling us for further clarification? Its been six months now going to seven months since we put in the application.
Not to stress you out more or anything, but the Etobicoke office seems to have one of the longer wait times. My file was transferred to the Etobicoke office in march of last year and has just reached first stage approval..

they also didn't contact me until 14 months after my file was received at the etobicoke office.

be patient, there's a pretty decent chance you're in for a bit of a wait. in the mean time if there's anything can think of that you could provide in support of your application, start collecting it..

you also asked in your first post about what kind of questions they ask at the interview..that all depends on why they are interviewing you. there's obviously a concern with your application..but you didn't say what kind of application you have...other than in canada.
Sorry my file was in Canada application for permanent resident. Its application to sponsor my husband.
You're going to probably be in for a bit of a wait now. What you can focus on is accumulating some information that further proves your relationship. That is usually, but not always, the reason for local office transfer. Sometimes they open up the file and see something like a big age difference, or vastly different cultural backgrounds, and automatically put them out for more review.
My time line is as follows:
App received : March 28, 08
Began Processing: April 25, 08
September 10 received the requested information of which i don know coz then never requested any information from us
Transferred our file to the local CIC office on October 9, 08 . The local CIC office may contact us.
Me and my husband just received a letter from vegreville stating that they transferred the file to the local office and that they might contact us for an interview or further clarification. We haven't got the first stage approval yet and its worrying me what might really be going on.We have given them everything that one could possibly think of even the unnecessary stuff. I still have more if they want them from me.The age difference is not that much he is 3 years older than i am and that should be a problem, i guess, but we are not from the same cultural background. We have been staying for more than two years before getting married and we have things like bills with our names and some email conversations and a joint back a/c.
I don't know if we are on the right truck or its normal for things like this to happen all the time. Please any response will help
IS it true that if you change your address that might hasten you application???? I just heard that there are some local offices where they take a shorter time to process the application and its due to less backlogs. If it will bring complications please notify me about this issue
If you were to move out of the area served by the Etobicoke office, your file could be transferred to an office that might have a shorter queue. But be aware that most of the offices in the GTA are similarily backed up because of the sheer volume of people immigrating into that area.

You mentioned that there is a cultural background difference, which could account for concerns about the genuine nature of your relationship - and necessitate an interview. You also mentioned that you've been together for a couple of years now - has your partner been in Canada that entire time? What type of temporary status does he have? What country is he from?
Yes my husband has been here with me the entire time. We are both Africans but he is from west Africa and I'm from east Africa.

What if i changed my address to a place like Vancouver or anywhere other than GTA, will it make any difference??
Failed refugee claimant might be some of it
I'm not sure you can just change your address to Vancouver, etc unless you actually move there
I walked to the immigration office today and asked for the reasons as to why the file was transfered to the local office and the Io actually pulled the file and sad that the reason is because me and my husband are receiving social assistance which is not true. And that we have to prove our relationship bona fide.
Any response i will appreciate.
Were either/both of you receiving social assistance like right before you filed?
Being a failed refugee claimant can throw up red flags that it may be a relationship/marriage of convenience to stay in Canada.
Derbygirl,
I have been staying with my husband for three year and so now. And if it was due to failed refugee case then why didn't the officer tell us there. We really insisted on knowing the reason and the IO said that there is no other reason other than two reason which are social assistance and we have to prove that our relationship to be bona fide. We have also filed for FOSS and i hope to receive it soon.
Another thing is that the IO told us that our file will be kept in the shelf for the next three years because that is what he can see noted in the system. So i am really wondering if this Canadian system is for real or what? All this thing keep dragging someones life behind when someone has planned alot. Like me and my husband, we have worked so hard to help the Canadian system and now i feel as if now everything is coming to an end. We have and organization that we founded and a foundation together (http://www.inalor.org)I just feel as if this Canada is a world by itself but not the one i thought before
