So I am done as of 11am this morning.....I am now officially a Canadian Citizen.....5 long years of CIC misery are over and behind me......THANK GOD..!!!!!
The ceremony was actually very good - lots of people, around 50 or so who took the oath plus all the friends and families who went with them for the occasion.
For all of my friends on this forum who are still in the process of applying or receiving their status......hang in there....!!!!!!

I just checked eCas and it still hasn't been updated since November when I had my citizenship test. I guess it's not updated weekly as the website claims!

Oh My God, I think we finally found some part of CIC regulations that you haven't had to memorize. Yet, that is.

Sure - the experience was actually very nice....quite a fitting end to a drawn out process. I arrived at the CIC office about 15 minutes ahead of the ceremony time and there was already a line up of people ahead of me. I went with my family and joined the queue. The line up was for all of the applicants to get their paperwork checked, it took about 45 minutes to get through around 50 applicants. When we got in there and got seated, the clerk of the ceremnony told us what was going to happen - this was said in both English and French. Then we were introduced to our mayor, the judge, the local counciller, a snr RCMP officer and a provincial police officer (both in formal uniform).
The judge kicked things off with a little speech, welcoming all the new citizens and thanking the partners and friends for supporting them through the process; then, one by one, we were called out by name and went to shake hands with the judge and the visiting dignitaries and were presented with our certificate of citizenship. Once all the applicants had been handed their certificates, we all took the oath of citizenship - even existing citizens were envited to reaffirm their oath to Canada. After that, we sang the national anthem in both English and French.
I would say that the whole process took around 2 hours from start to finish - you are permitted to take photographs or film the whole event with the exception of the swearing of the oath, they ask that you don't film or photograph that event.
All in all, it was a great end to a very long process - it took 16 months and 3 weeks for my case to get completed but I understand that most of the applications are done in around 13 months.....I think I was unlucky to ge the slack CIC office for both my PR and my Citizenship applications. I called CIC 3 weeks before my ceremony to ask what was going on and if they could look into my file as it had been 16 months. The agent said that they would send a request to the local office asking for an update on my file because it had now exceeded the posted wait times.....within a week I suddenly had the ceremony date given to me.....sounds a little too coincidental :)

It was almost 9 months to the day that they put my application up on ecas. We got a call on Friday from the women who do the arrangements for the ceremony. They were checking to see if my time was up yet. My husband routinely takes part in the swearing in ceremonies since he's a member of the Order of Canada. They're not sure, but it may be the first time that a Member will get to swear in his own wife when it gets to be my turn. I'm hoping by Christmas, but am not holding my breath.
