I read somewhere that if filing an Outland application, you are not able to get the temporary work permit before the PR application is finished (if you request it).

Is there any point in the application process where at Outland Applicant could apply for a work permit and have it approved?
My wife 'n I are applying for the US - but looking for a good time to return to Canada - and wondering if there would be any options before the application is approved....

Hi
Obtain an approved Labour Market Opinion from an employer in Canada. The employer applies to Services Canada with proof that they are unable to hire a Canadian or PR for the position and they have advertised in the Job Bank in the past 3 months. If it is approved, then you could obtain a work permit at the Port of Entry, if the job didn't require a medical. Although you would probably have your PR visa issued before the LMO and work permit were issued.

This is where I had questions as well, but i spoke with someone at CIC who told me that it was possible after AIP, even though she knew i was trying to apply outland. very confusing. i already have temporary status and would be living in BC again. i wonder of that has any effect on the outcome?

Technically the call centre agent was right, since outland applicants don't get AIP, so they can't apply for a work permit in Canada.
