I received an email requesting our passports asap, as the validity of my visa is April 8. I know a formal letter is on its way to my Canadian mailing address - but we've been waiting over a week (not much in the long run... I know) for the letter with the instructions in it, and feeling a LOT of pressure with getting passports sent and returned prior to April 8! Worried I'm losing days waiting for the letter to arrive. I have plans to travel back to the US over the weekend. Hopefully the letter will arrive Monday or Tuesday, and my hubby can fax it to me. Mail to the Consulate will only take a day as I live in the NY Metro area. Was told it takes them 15 days to process. Just wondering: Has anyone sent their passport to the New York office? Do you use the address listed on the Consulate's website? Do you need to enclose the original letter when mailing your passports? Thanks in advance.
I don't know about the New York office. But if it helps at all, my husband's application was transferred to the L.A. office, and he recently was requested to send his passport there. He had to include 2 new passport photos, and a copy of the letter that was sent to him. It was sent to the Canadian Consulate in Los Angeles.
Mine went to Buffalo, I think all the offices do it slightly differently. I got an email, but never got a letter. So I'm glad I didn't wait. You could probably email them and ask.

That's helpful, thanks!
