can anyone tell me if there is some sort of tax break for purchases made in the US before i land? i want to do some big shopping while Buffalo is processing my visa, and since i'm not bringing anything from my US home, i was hoping i could stock up on some stuff and somehow count that as pre-PR possessions...
also, is there a thread or link anywhere on US citizens filing taxes here? i've read about putting investments in trusts (or something like that) for five years to avoid getting taxed...and since the market crashed last year, i don't want anything i recover to get taxed once i'm a PR! don't know if i need to do anything BEFORE i land...
thanks!
Its not allowed to go on a shopping spree right before landing to avoid taxes.

I would not risk lying and saying you owned them in advance either, safer to just pay the taxes.
