This may be a common sense question, but I'd rather ask and look like a moron, then fill out something wrong.
I'm going to start preparing my "goods to follow" list. Does EVERYTHING need to have a value?? And how the heck do you determine what it's worth?
For example...clothes....just a rough estimate?
Electronics, wedding gifts, furniture, my car, etc...do they want the value when it was bought or what it's probably worth now?
And when listing these goods...am I allowed to group things together? For example, instead of listing each specific pot and pan, or cooking utensils, or childhood toys (don't laugh...I'm saving them for my kids hehe!)...can I just say something like "10 pots and pans" or "box of random toys"?
Again, I'm just throwing out very random examples, but I want it to be as organized and clear on my list so I don't run into any problems, but at the same time I have a lot of "bulk" items that would be easier to list in groupings.
Hope someone can clarify! Thanks so much!

1, Used value
2. Only expensive items, electronics with serial no. should be listed individually.
3. Other wise xx boxes kitchen utensils nil value, xx boxes of clothes $ value a reasonable guess is good enough, CBSA isn't going to sit down at craigslist and value everything.
4. Valuable Jewelry in goods to follow, should have pictures and valuation.
PMM
Ditto PMM
Yes, every entry needs a "value" . . . but it is not as if you need to have an appraisal or expert opinion of this. Mostly they do not care if it is obvious that these are personal goods. If they look like stuff you might sell, perhaps a different story . . . remember, all good brought in are duty free only if you use them personally; if you sell them, give them away, or (I think) even trash them, within the first year of bringing them in, then you are supposed to pay duty on their value (and I think this is why a value must be entered for them).
You're comment about bringing your toys made me laugh.
When my husband was filling out his Goods to Follow list, he didn't have more than a dozen things, but the item with the highest value on his list were his "toy" army men, planes, ships and tanks.
I had no idea they were worth so much..... I even wondered when he handed over his list at Customs what they thought when they read that.
Oh GOOD! Alright, that lowers my stress a bit....I am bringing
alot of stuff (most of which is already packed), and I was going to have a heart attack if I had to reopen them all and list every single little thing one by one. I'm glad it's more of a general tally/list and not something oober specific.
PHEWWWW!
And it's ok to laugh at the toy thing, TPSmitty! I actually collect toys/action figures (not the ones I mentioned about giving to my kids!), that I have on display everywhere...rare collectibles and such...so I'm sure when they look at my list I'll get a funny look as well! A grown woman bringing multiple boxes of TOYS...yeah, they'll enjoy that.

Ok....so here's a new question that falls under this topic...
In regards to "goods to follow" -- if I submit this list to Customs when I land...and then wanted someone to *bring* said belongings on that list to me later, is this possible? As in, tell Customs that someone else will be bringing this other stuff and give the person bringing said items a copy of the list I already submitted as verification that it's my stuff? Or do I have to physically *be* at the border when the belongings arrive at a later date?
I meant to ask at the Consulate this morning when I dropped off my passport, but completely forgot...I know I could always ask when I go pick it up later, but just wanted to toss out this idea here and see if anyone knows the answer or has/had experience with this themselves?
Thanks, guys!
