My wife wants to claim me as a dependent on my taxes, and as I understand it, I need a temporary SIN for her to do that. I looked at the application to get a temporary SIN and it asks for a copy of your visitor's record. Unfortunately the date on my visitor record would indicate it's expired. I applied for a temporary visa extension in November, but I haven't gotten a response back yet. My question is has anyone dealt with this issue before? Can I just send a copy of my current visitor's record, or would that be rejected? Thank you very much in advance.

What about sending a copy of the visitor extension application and the fee receipt?
I'm not sure, maybe send a copy of the visitor record plus a copy of the extension application together with a note that you're still waiting for a reply, and so have "implied status".

Unless the OP has a work permit, he won't get a SIN. What s/he should be applying for is an ITN (Individual Tax No.) from CRA.

PMM
I've done as PMM suggests & I have an ITN that we've used on my guy's taxes

Here's the link, it WILL take (especially at this time of year) at least a month and possibly more like 2 or 3

Thank you for all the replies. It does look like an ITN is the way I need to go.
