Well Landed today :) at my local office. it was just the CIC Officer, my Girlfriend and myself.

I have to say it was a great experience, the CIC officer had a great sense of humor, especially when I suggested that he should waive the Residence Fee because I had run out of money.

After the formalities we talked about immigration procedures and that I expected and interview in my case due to large age difference between us (34 vs 51) not the 'Normal way around', multiple previous marriages on both sides. He said this is very rare, approvals are very high his words were 'if you have a good reason to be in Canada and have no criminal issues we want you to immigrate' He explained in great detail how they process application and 'Red Flags' etc. He especially mentioned affidavits carry a lot of weight in an application, I explained I have heard so many horror stories and he said 99% of these are started by incorrect filling of the application 'People just don't send what we ask for'. I can honestly say that all contact I have had with the CIC (not the call center) the actual officers one at CPC-V and the Local Office they have been friendly, helpful, kind and even funny. So my advice to all in application is 'Get all your docs in order the 1st time' Get affidavits from friends and be 100% truthful and you will have no problems.

Easy for me to say now, I was sweating for months. but it is over I am now a PR and it feels like a tonne of bricks has been taken of my back.

I thank you all for your support here and wish luck and strength to everybody who are in process. I am going to stick around here as many people held my hand, I will be there for the next batch of PR's

Ditto! I'm glad it went so well for you. :)

(My hubby and I have a large age difference as well... he's 34, I'm 47 ;) )
Congratulations.

And I believe that for the most part what he said is probably true. Not for all, as some people do find their case going off the rails for no fault of their own, but for most I do believe it has to do with either simply not qualifying (they still get a lot of fiance apps from what I understand) or a failure to properly complete the applications.
Congrats and welcome to Canada. You may breathe and rest easily now.
Congratulations on what was a really quick & seemingly smooth process for you! :)
congrats, that's really great!
i don't know when i can get my decision made.....my case has been six and half months,my husband called CIC call centre yesterday...no result, but more waiting....we haven't received any letter and no update on ecas, all we know is that they received our case on sept 3, 2009, and started to process on oct 1, 2009.... waiting..waiting..and unlimited waiting....crying................
Hi, First thank you for all the support and congratualtions.

Second to KiKi,

Keep your head up, it was the same for me, nothing, nothing, nothing, depressed, worried etc, then one day CIC-V called asked me 2 questions and said you are approved, few weeks later I am a PR. I know how it feels trust me, read my posts in this fourm how worried I was and then in 5 minutes everything changed. I am sure it will happen for you. I wish you all the luck in the world.
Congrats, EuroChris. Glad things went smoothly for you.
With the time frame you're giving (received on Sept 3 & started processing Oct 1) - that sounds like an outland application.

Are you inland or outland?

Congrats! Your timeline seems to have gone really fast. I'm sure you both are very happy. I mailed off our package yesterday so now we'll see.
Thanks usa2can I wish you luck, things usually turn out ok in the end :) and KiKi.. See everything can change in 5 mins....
do the affidavits have to be notarized? Or just as letters from family/friends with their name, ph# address, etc?
